US authorities have recently begun easing some restrictions
President Donald Trump’s administration has decided to suspend the “financial sponsorship” requirement imposed on foreign visitors from certain countries, the US State Department said on Wednesday.
According to this ruling, fans who have confirmed their ticket reservations to attend the 2026 World Cup games will be held liable for a $15,000 bond.
The Trump administration approved the measure last year as part of a broader campaign to deregulate immigration.
The sponsorship includes travelers from 50 countries, including 5 that have qualified for the 2026 World Cup: Algeria, Tunisia, Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire and Cape Verde.

In turn, US Assistant Secretary of State for Consular Affairs Maura Namdar announced that FIFA Pass subscribers, who will be retroactively exempted from the sponsorship requirement as of April 15, will be retroactively exempted.
Players, coaches and administrative staff were previously exempt from this condition, but fans were required to pay a deposit until the new decision was made.
