TreeSize no longer provides perpetual license support unless users are registered

The company behind disk space analyzer TreeSize has angered some users by not offering support or renewing licenses beyond their maintenance period unless customers sign up. Another disappointment has come from JAM Software’s old policy of not issuing license keys or installers to regular TreeSize license holders after the support period has expired.

Since 2025, JAM Software has been evolving TreeSize details to registration types. Today, it sells perpetual licenses for personal use, which include 12 months of updates, support, and “downloads of older versions, with your license,” plus the option to extend the support period. TreeSize currently has “no plans to stop selling TreeSize Personal perpetual licenses,” sales manager Hendrik Christ told Ars Technica.

As the license maintenance period expires, customers are finding that extending support now requires subscription to licensed software.
