Toulouse bid for Motherwell manager Jens Barthel Asko

Toulouse have made an official approach to Motherwell as they target manager Jens Barthel Askew as their new head coach.

Askou secured European football for Lanarkshire by lifting the Scottish Premiership club into fourth place with victory at Hibernian last Saturday.

Toulouse, meanwhile, ended their Ligue 1 season in 10th place after beating Lyon on Sunday, a game that marked the end of Spanish boss Carles Martínez Nouvel’s three-year tenure.

Talks are currently underway between the French side and Motherwell, but Fir Park sources have told BBC Scotland that nothing has been agreed over Ascu’s future.

The Danish coach has been praised for implementing what he described as the most attractive football in Scotland since his arrival last summer.

The Askou side broke club records defensively without restricting their bold, attacking play, which eventually attracted interest from Europe.
