The Tornadoes want to make history at the World Cup
The 2026 World Cup won’t just be a tournament where Saudi Arabia captain Salem Al-Dossari takes part in opening the final page of his history with the World Cup, but rather an opportunity to write that page in golden letters.
Al-Dosari will lead Al-Akhdar to the finals of the 2026 World Cup when they will play in Group H with Spain, Uruguay and Cape Verde, where he has a historic opportunity to topple Saudi and Arab players at the World Cup.
Saudi Arabia’s most entrant
Salem Al-Dosari has a historic opportunity to become the most capped Saudi player in World Cup history, but that requires qualifying for the next round of the World Cup.
The Tornado played 6 matches for Saudi Arabia at the World Cup, finishing fifth in the list of most capped players, tied with many legends such as Saeed Al-Owairan, Fouad Anwar and Nawaf Al-Tamyat.
There are only 4 players better than Salem, one of whom has played 10 World Cup matches, leading Mohamed Al-Dea, in addition to Sami Al-Jaber, Abdullah Suleiman and Hussain Abdul-Ghani, who have played 9 each.
Al-Dossari will be guaranteed a tie for second place with the trio if they take part in all of their group stage matches, but will need at least one extra match in the knockout stages to draw level with leaders Al-Daiya.
Most common in the Arab world
The same is true at the Arab level, where it only takes 4 matches to become the most capped Arab player in World Cup history.
In addition to Al-Daea, two Moroccan players, namely Hakim Ziech and Achraf Hakim, have participated in 10 matches in the history of the World Cup, making this trio the best Arab players in the number of matches.
If the Tornadoes can land Ziech and Al-Dae, they likely won’t be able to land Hakimi, who is playing for Morocco at the World Cup, meaning he could widen the gap.
Saudi Arabia’s top scorer in the World Cup
Apart from direct participation, Al-Dossari will need to be more efficient and score just one goal to become Saudi Arabia’s all-time leading scorer at the World Cup.
Al Dosari is already at that height at the moment, but he is equal to the legend Sami Al Jaber, both of them scored 3 goals.
If the Tornado manage to score a fourth goal, they will go one short of Al Jaber’s tally of 4 in 1994, 1998, 2002 and 2006, while the 2026 edition will be Al Dosari’s third.
The best scorer of the Arab World Cup
The same is true at the Arab level, where Salem Al-Dossari needs just one goal to become the Arabs’ all-time top scorer at the World Cup.
Al-Dossari is tied with compatriot Sami Al-Jaber, as well as Morocco’s Youssef Al-Nusairi and Tunisia’s Wahbi Al-Khazri, as the top Arab scorers in World Cup history with three goals each.
With the retirements of Sami Al Jaber and Wahbi Khazri, and Youssef En-Nesiri not being called up to the Morocco squad, the Tornado’s chances look very good to snatch this historic title.
The King of Saudi Arabia and the Arabs
A goal that Salem Al-Dossari can score in the World Cup will not only make him Saudi Arabia’s and Arabs’ all-time top scorer in the World Cup, but also make him the first king in both categories with another historic record.
With his registration, Tornado will become the highest scoring Saudi and Arab player in various World Cup competitions, as this edition will be the third after the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.
Al-Dossari will succeed Sami Al-Jaber, who scored three World Cup goals for Saudi Arabia in 1994, 1998 and 2006, while in 2002.
