Arrest of fans and fines
The Central Disciplinary Committee of Morocco’s National Professional Football League on Friday evening imposed a series of severe penalties on the Royal Army and Raja Sports Clubs following riots and violence surrounding their April 30 clash in the local league.
The committee said in an official statement that it called an emergency meeting to examine the reports of the match referee and delegate, noting that “the gravity of the acts committed by the fans of both teams, which included vandalism, chaos and injuries to security personnel”, necessitated decisive decisions to protect the reputation of Moroccan football.
The sanctions included the Royal Army playing 5 matches behind closed doors and Raja Athletic Club playing 3 matches behind closed doors.
The committee also decided to ban fans of both clubs from accompanying their teams to matches for the remainder of the 2025-2026 season.
The committee fined each club 200,000 dirhams, a total of 400,000 dirhams, for the “unsportsmanlike conduct” of their fans.
In addition, the committee banned the Royal Army team from playing the rest of its matches this season at the Prince Moulay Abdullah Stadium in Rabat, except for continental and international matches, provided it chooses an alternative stadium approved by the league.
The committee also ordered the two clubs to equally bear the costs of repairing the damage to the stadium after conducting a technical assessment to ascertain the extent of the losses.
These decisions come at a critical time in the season, as the two teams compete for advanced positions in the rankings, making the sanctions a severe blow to their sporting and financial ambitions.
