Three people have been killed in the border area between Russia and Ukraine, according to officials, as the two sides fire at each other in an exchange of fire.
In Russia, two civilians were killed and two were injured in Kyiv’s Bryansk region after an artillery shell hit a residential area in Suzemka, Governor Egor Kovalchuk said in a telegraph message on Friday.

A drone also hit a residential building in Russia’s central Tatarstan region, injuring three people, while factories were hit, regional director Rustam Minnikhanov said on the Telegraph news program.
Production has not been stopped, however, he added, but he has not identified any plants. The area has major oil and petrochemical facilities, among others.
The Russian city of Togliatti, home to “Avtovaz, the country’s largest car manufacturer, was also attacked by a drone at night,” Samara Region Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev said in the Telegraph.
“Watch out! The regime is attacking the Togliatti planes,” he wrote. Togliatti is a city on the Volga River about 800 kilometers (500 miles) southeast of Moscow.
This is what Ukraine calls a “material shutdown,” Al Jazeera’s Audrey MacAlpine said in Kyiv. They also described medium-range strikes up to 30 kilometers (17 miles) from the front, using long-range drones and sometimes heavy artillery to target facilities such as oil refineries, bridges, cargo, and roads as a way to stop Russian frontline operations.
At the same time, he said, Ukraine is also introducing what it calls “long-term sanctions” against Russian targets – the words “tongue and cheek…
In Ukraine, a drone attack in the border region of Sumy resulted in casualties.
A 44-year-old woman who worked as a train driver died on her way to a public depot during the strike, according to the head of Ukrainian Railways, Oleksandr Pertsovkyi.
A woman, a station worker, was injured in the attack, Pertsovkyi added.
Three people were injured in separate attacks in the southern Ukrainian region of Mykolaiv.
“We’ve seen Russia’s constant threats before major attacks, and we’ve seen the consequences of what happened here in cities like Kyiv, where the game continues to be Ukraine’s Achilles heel”, said MacAlpine.
In recent months, Kyiv has made increasing threats to Russia and the territories occupied by Russia.
On Thursday, an oil refinery in Russia’s Crimean Peninsula ran out of fuel after Ukraine’s campaign against the peninsula’s supply channels.
A witness in Sevastopol, the island’s largest city, told Reuters news agency that there was no fuel at many gas stations, and that things were struggling to keep up with the fuel distribution system implemented in recent weeks.
Another witness, in the town of Yevpatoriya, said there was a long line outside the only gas station open there.
Ukraine has been escalating drone attacks on supply lines on the peninsula, which Russia seized from Kyiv in 2014. Local authorities have imposed restrictions on fuel, and other foodstuffs are in short supply.
Apart from Crimea which is in Russia, only two regions in Siberia have confirmed its existence.
Many other communities have reported that things are going well, and that some disruptions were caused by panic buying. Moscow has denied that there were any problems with oil.
