This German Man Wants to Cut a Perfect Slice of Bread

Jan is surprised by the support she gets for her hobby. “I’m overwhelmed by the community,” he tells WIRED. “Maybe the audience felt the same way I did when my friend cut the piece,” he recalls. “And I hope that many of my viewers will now be inspired to get more involved in the bread-and-butter game.”

To this end, Jan offers links buy special equipment they depend on; they make sure to select pieces that are available from all over the world. And even though they don’t currently have an ad campaign with those brands, it doesn’t feel like that anymore. He is a star, after all.

Jan’s day job has nothing to do with the food business, she says, and she has never baked her own bread. “We have so many great bakeries here in Germany, I don’t think I’ll be able to try different breads anytime soon,” he says, though he adds that he’s “always looking for unique breads.” Jan skips all the breads before moving on to a new one, with fans seeing each subsequent bread as another “season” of her show.

To date, Jan’s favorite bread is Frankenlaib, a traditional German round bread that earned its latest Gold Award. He said, “even though he was very good at it,” he loved the wall-shaped bread. That’s because, perfectionist that he is, he doesn’t believe in shortcuts: “Even though we got really good at the end, I personally don’t find the result of a square loaf as impressive as cutting a ‘real,’ traditional dough,” Jan explains.

He wrote: “My Achilles heel. (Lastly he struggle with one of these components(One fan wrote: “You try to minimize what others might see of you as a last resort. You continue to have creativity, innovation, and accountability.”)
