Thielemans prevented the match from going to a penalty
Youri Tillmans made a historic mark at the World Cup by scoring twice in Belgium’s 3-2 extra-time win over Senegal in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Round of 32 at Seattle Stadium in the United States of America on Wednesday night.
Tillmans scored the decisive winning goal in the 124th minute and 43 seconds later, becoming the author of the latest goal in the history of the World Cup.
Thielemans’ goal broke the previous record set by Algerian Abdelmooumen Jabou, who scored in the 120th minute and 49 seconds of Germany’s 2-1 win over Germany in the round of 16 at the 2014 World Cup.

Tillmans also became the second player in Belgium’s history to score a brace in a World Cup knockout stage match, after Bernard Voorhoff, who achieved the feat against Germany in 1934.
The match ended with the victory of the Senegalese, but the Belgian team suddenly stood up, scoring two consecutive goals in the 86th and 89th minutes by Romelu Lukaku and Youri Tillmans, making the score 2-2.
The encounter was extended to extra time which saw the Red Devils win a decisive victory thanks to Yuri Tillmans’ own penalty in the 120th minute + 5.
With this victory, the Belgian team set the date for the 1/8 finals of the World Championship with the winner of the match between the USA and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
