They have finally made the Oura ring smaller and lighter

Wherever I go, whatever I do, people point at my finger and ask, “Is that Oura’s ring?” Many people find that they love the design, and tell me why they are considering switching to a smart ring from a smart watch. But the people who are growing their noses? They usually say something along the lines of, “Hm. Maybe it’ll be lighter or smaller.”

Good news. The $399 Oura Ring 5 just announced and all. It is 40 percent smaller than Mount Oura 4its size is 6.09mm (down from 7.9mm) and 2.29mm thick (down from 2.88mm). Depending on the size, it weighs from 2 to 2.69g. You might think that it would be difficult to notice the big difference between Oura Ring 4 and 5 – two very small clothes. But dropping the Oura 5 ring onto my wrist? It is immediately apparent. On my finger, it’s small, too.

The design doesn’t look different, though Oura told me in the press that it’s been tweaked to include more powerful LEDs and better battery life that can last six to nine days. (Alas, friends with small fingers: bigger rings always have longer battery life.) The ring is made of titanium and is IP68 weather-resistant, and the coating is said to be less scratch-resistant than previous models. (Though I’ll be the judge of that in the test. I’ll never forget how warmed I was to the rose gold Oura Ring Gen 3.) The optional case now has five cases and works with wireless chargers. There is also a new “deep rose” color, which is more of a golden shade than pink.

There are few disappointments. Like the Oura Ring 4, the company is encouraging people who want to upgrade twice to review their size with new equipment. Thanks to the reworked parts, people can have a ring size “in between”, which may need to go bigger or smaller to be comfortable. Also, while Oura Ring 4 was available in sizes 4 to 15, Oura Ring 5 will only come in sizes 6 to 13. At my briefing, I was told that it was because Oura Ring 4 was not very old (it was launched at the end of 2024) and the company is still looking for new sizes. Another problem: There is no ceramic option yet.

Along with the hardware, Oura is also announcing a tan for new software updates today. Building forward Radar signalwhich detects early changes in health, the company is introducing a product called Health Radar. Some of these features include nocturnal blood pressure and nocturnal breathing, the ability to send medical notes, and a partnership with Council AI for a medical chatbot. (These last two features require you to participate in the Oura Labs beta test.) The idea is that Health Radar will show when significant changes are occurring in your health without having to look at each metric individually on a daily basis.

For people interested in metabolic health, Oura is also adding GLP-1 information and lab upgrades. At my briefing, I was told that the GLP-1 information was designed to help users monitor their dosage, monitor changes and side effects, and identify how well the medication might affect their metrics. For example, GLP-1s can slightly increase heart rate. The lab installation will allow Oura users to directly enter test results into the app and chat with Oura’s AI chatbot about the findings. (As always, a valid reminder that many AI health Appearance (They can only offer hallucinations and advice without advice, so it’s a bad idea to think that this can replace a doctor.)

Smart, live event tracking and management in the Oura app. Now you’ll be able to integrate a heart monitor into the Oura app, and see real-time metrics. And like other big health companies, Oura is launching a new study called the Brain Health Study. Users can log in to share their data as Oura learns how metrics relate to smart performance.

All this is very difficult, and because of the Oura conflict last year its Palantir partnershipThe company says it will now offer users additional options to delete their data. A new feature called Time-based Data Deletion will allow users to delete data within a time window if they wish.

The Oura Ring 5 is available order it in advance today, starting at $399 for black and silver and $499 for all colors. Expected to post June 4. The Brain Health Study begins today. All other software updates will be released in June.
