They became close friends – then they found out that they were brother and sister

“I asked if we could go and get it back, and she explained that it doesn’t work that way, so I promised her that I would get it one day,” Urmston said.

Now they were finally meeting again.

“She’s wanted that since I was a kid,” Urmston said, “so yeah, I gave her that. I promised her.”

On the mantelpiece in Susan’s house was a picture of Green as a baby.

He was sent to his birth mother by his adoptive parents days after the adoption.

A similar photograph was also seen at his adoptive parents’ home.

Green had known he was adopted since he was 10 — his adoptive parents showed him the paperwork.

But he said he had a very happy childhood, and had no desire to follow his birth mother.

“I didn’t feel like I had to go searching or have unanswered questions,” Green said.

For all three, finding each other was a life-changing experience.

“At a time when I didn’t have a lot of positivity in my life, I went so far as to know that my best friend was my sister,” Green added.

“I found my birth mother who made me really happy. And I really found a family I never knew existed.”

Their mother recently passed away, but both said they were happy to be reunited with her daughter.

“She really wanted to meet you to make sure you had a great life,” Urmston said.

The reunion is bittersweet for Urmston. She longs for years to find her brother.

“My mum and dad unfortunately split up and so I had a hard time knowing (Dave) was there but I didn’t know (where).”

Both now say they are making the most of their time together after moving in together in Kidsgrove, Staffordshire. They say it’s their “lottery win.”
