“It got me right in the elbow, and right now, just swollen,” Dominguez said after the game. “Right now, I don’t feel any anxiety.”
Although the 23-year-old switch-hitter initially stayed in the game after being checked by a trainer and manager Aaron Boone, Max Schumann Replaced him in left field in the bottom of the fourth. Boone said Dominguez was in obvious pain after returning to the dugout.
The Yankees announced during the game that Dominguez had a bruised left elbow. X-rays at the stadium were inconclusive and he will have further imaging tests on Thursday, a day off at home for the team.
“Hopefully the tests don’t reveal too much and it’s just bruising and we’ll work through it,” Boone said. “But unknown at this point.”
Ace in other injury news Gerrit Cole Gave up three runs and three hits in 5⅔ overs in his third minor league injury rehab start Wednesday.
His exit came in the second game of a Double-A Eastern League doubleheader in the Somerset Patriots’ 6–5, seven-inning loss to the Portland Sea Dogs in Boston.
Cole threw 45 of 60 pitches for strikes, striking out three and walking none.
“All of today’s offerings don’t have a lot of misses and consistency, which was nice,” Cole said. “I was pleased with the changes. The shape and position was pretty good today, probably the best.”
A six-time All-Star, Cole is coming back from reconstructive elbow surgery on March 11 of last year that sidelined him for 2025. The last official outing for the 2023 AL Cy Young Award winner was Game 5 of the 2024 World Series on October 30.
Playing one day after his 25th birthday, the Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe Went 2 for 4. He is batting .303 (10-for-33) with a homer and three RBIs in 10 minor league games since April 14.
Recovering from left shoulder surgery on Oct. 14, Volpe could be activated by the Yankees in Friday’s series opener against Baltimore in New York.
The Yankees are left-handed Carlos Rodon Somerset is set to make his second minor league rehab start on Thursday. He gave up one hit in 4⅓ overs of scoreless innings on April 24 for High-A Hudson Valley. He struck out four, walked one and threw 43 of 65 pitches for strikes.
Rodon is recovering from surgery on Oct. 15 to remove loose bodies in his left elbow and shave a bone. He suffered a concussion in late March when he strained his right hamstring while throwing at the Yankees complex in Florida.
