The WiiM expands its entire home universe with new sounds

WiiM, the audio company that challenges the idea that audiophile systems need a small credit, is expanding its home ecosystem with the WiiM Bar, which. is released in July. The company’s first sound system has a 3.0.2 Atmos configuration with eight drivers – three front woofers, three front tweeters, and two high-frequency drivers – combined with four passive radiators. That fix can be extended to 3.1.2 with the WiiM extension Sub Pro for $449, or a 5.1.2 setup by adding two company cables. Noise or Sound Lite speakers. It’s compatible with both Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, and includes room processing, conversation enhancement, and night vision.

While current soundbar designs from companies like Sonos, Bose, and Samsung are sleek but understated, the WiiM Bar is characterized by a 2.1-inch front-and-center display. The Bar isn’t the first WiiM device to include a graphics card; they can also be found on the WiiM Ultra streamer, WiiM Amp Ultra streaming amp, and WiiM Sound speaker. I’m a fan of having a display that shows things like volume level, playback information, or album art, and I like that it also offers another way to control the controller. But I’m not usually around the speakers and listening, so I’m not sure how useful that feature is. There are also dynamic lighting buttons for volume, play and pause, and source switching.

The bar can be integrated into an existing WiiM multi-room system. It can play audio from over 20 sources from the WiiM Home app, or connect to Google Cast Audio, Spotify Connect, Qobuz Connect, Tidal Connect, and Amazon Music Cast. There is also local network support with DLNA or Roon. The main exception is Apple AirPlay, which hasn’t had any WiiM devices since Amp was released in November 2023.

Connectivity includes HDMI eARC, optical, line in, Ethernet, and a USB-A port that can be configured as audio in, audio out, or media storage. There is a remote control included if you need more of the software or controls on the controller.

I fully expect The Bar, which will be released in July, is just the beginning. If the WiiM follows its previous path, we’re sure we’ll get an extended version later this year or early tomorrow. But even if we don’t, the $479 WiiM Bar seems like a great deal from a company that knows how to make great products.
