The star of the pharaohs shakes big
Egypt’s Mahmoud Saber was embarrased at a press conference following their 2026 World Cup clash with Iran after a translation error led to a foreign reporter misunderstanding one of his questions.
During the conference, an American reporter asked the Pharaohs player about his opinion on Pride Day for the LGBT community, but the translation was not clear for Mahmoud Saber, who thought that what “pride” meant in its general linguistic sense.
The player answered with a smile at first. “Sure… that’s definitely the best thing,” before an audience member interjected and explained to her that the question was about supporting the LGBT community, not the concept of pride in general.

After clarifying the meaning, Mahmoud Saber quickly corrected his answer saying: “No… I don’t prefer to talk about such things,” and the incident quickly ended in the boardroom.
The incident comes after a brilliant performance by the Egypt international against Iran when he scored the goal for the Pharaohs in a positive 1-1 draw that saw the Egyptian national team advance to the round of 32 with five points.
The Egyptian national team will meet Australia in the 32nd round of the 2026 World Cup, where the match will be held on Friday, July 3, at 9:00 p.m. Mecca time, at the stadium in the American city of Dallas.
