The Trump administration today released SpaceX’s Starlink routers from the Federal Communications Commission’s ban on foreign-made routers.
A public knowledge issued by the FCC stated that Starlink routers received approval from the Department of War (also known as the Department of Defense). SpaceX’s exemption is good until February 1, 2028.
The FCC created a business crisis when it changed List Covered including all routers made by others outside the US, except those that are not authorized. The Covered List includes materials that pose an unacceptable risk to national security. Since routers are often built outside of the US or have foreign-made components, all major vendors require an exemption.
