The Timberwolves listed Anthony Edwards as questionable for Game 1

SAN ANTONIO — The Minnesota Timberwolves Enlisted Guard Anthony Edwards Sunday is questionable for Game 1 of their second-round series San Antonio Spurs Monday night.

Edwards, who suffered a bone bruise when he hyperextended his left knee in Game 4 of the first round, did light work on the court this weekend, traveled to San Antonio with the Timberwolves on Sunday and was officially cleared for basketball activities before Minnesota’s Monday morning shootaround.

There is growing optimism that Edwards could return to the lineup in the coming weeks. Team sources indicated to ESPN’s Shams Charania that the initial goal was before Games 3 or 4, but Edwards appeared to be hastening that speculation.

The Timberwolves have been cautious with Edwards, who has been managing persistent inflammation in his right knee for the past month. But Edwards is back ahead of schedule and has been aggressive in his recovery process given the urgency of the playoffs.

Edwards posted a YouTube video on his personal page Sunday morning that included clips of him running on a treadmill underwater and an interview with Timberwolves vice president of medical performance David Hines, who said the recovery time was one to two weeks.

On April 25, Edwards injured his left knee in a block attempt. Game 1 against the Spurs was nine days after the hyperextension and Game 4 was 15 days after the injury.

“How does he look and feel for the next few weeks?” Hines Edwards said in the video. “I think if he can hit all his metrics for pain management, mobility, functional strength, he can come back early.”

Without Edwards, the Timberwolves won Game 6 at home Denver Nuggets to win their first round series. Minnesota is a heavy underdog in the second-round series against the Spurs, who won 62 games during the regular season.

The Timberwolves also listed a reserve guard Come on Dosunmu Doubtful for Game 1. He missed Game 6 against Denver because of a sore right calf.
