The decision to leave comes after Ceballos left the accounts of new manager Jose Mourinho, which led to the termination of his contract a year before the original date.

The player waived his net salary of around 5 million euros per year (10 million in total), a move that allows the club to reduce the wage bill and secure a higher salary from its budget.

Ceballos said in his touching farewell message. “After 9 years, it’s time to turn the page of one of the most important chapters of my life. It wasn’t an easy decision and it wasn’t an easy year either, but I walk away with peace of mind because I gave it my all for this logo. For their part, Real Betis are set to open negotiations with their former player to sign a long-term contract with the option of a 4-year extension, taking advantage of his free agent status having previously waived transfer fees.
