The secrets of the sounding deal… The icon of Bavaria escapes from the clutches of Paris at the last moment.

Did he make the right decision?

The Bayern Munich star was just one step away from wearing the jersey of Paris Saint-Germain. Everything was ready, the negotiations reached an unexpected stage, the contacts were direct with the coach Luis Enrique and the sporting director Luis Campos, and the latter also made an official visit to his home while he was looking for schools for his children in Paris, given the imaginary financial offer that was hard to refuse.

It seemed that a sensational transfer was about to take place, and the football player’s career in Munich was actually over, but at the last moment everything suddenly stopped… and he stayed at “Bayern”.

“I was close to Paris.”

Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich has been remarkably candid about how close he was to a move to Paris Saint-Germain.

The Bayern Munich midfield captain has confirmed that his departure from the Bavarian club was more serious than previously known at the time, as he recalled in the ZDF documentary Captain Kimmich.

“I felt that Bayern were very ready to sell me,” Kimmich said, Sky Germany reports.

He added that he spoke with the sports director of “Bayern” Max Eberl, who assured him. “If you want to leave, you are for sale, and it can be done.”

Secret Company.. Was it the right decision?

According to the same documentary, Kimmich was very close to leaving in the summer of 2024, as he said: “I don’t know now what can happen here to renew my contract. “Even if we win 30 games in a row and they offer me a fantastic salary and the club are fully behind me… I rule it out 95%.”

In the winter of 2025, Paris Saint-Germain strongly renewed their interest. Kimmich talked with the sports director of the French club Luis Campos and coach Luis Enrique. Campos visited Kimmich at his home and the German star said:

Kimmich actually started looking for suitable living quarters and schools for his children in Paris, and the French club offered him a huge salary.

“The financial aspect was very surprising, but I didn’t want it to be the deciding factor.”

In the end, he decided to stay at “Bayern” because of the great confidence of his family and new coach Vincent Kompany. “I’ve never felt so confident,” he said.

Kimmich later extended his contract until 2029 in March 2025. After Bayern’s exit from the semi-finals of the Champions League against Paris Saint-Germain, he confirmed: “Extending with Bayern was the right decision.”
