Popular Congolese fan Michel Ngchuka, known by the nickname “Lumumba”, was unable to attend his country’s match against Portugal on Wednesday night.
The Democratic Republic of Congo managed to earn a valuable point with a 1-1 draw with Portugal in the opening game of the 2026 World Cup.
Lumumba gained wide fame during the 2025 African Nations Championship, which was held in Morocco.
As fans around him cheer, jump and celebrate, Lumumba stands like a ‘statue’ with one arm raised for 90 minutes.

However, the popular Congolese fan is expected to return to the stands in his country’s next game against Colombia, a long-awaited comeback.
