The secret behind Modric’s surprise return ahead of the Genoa match

A bit of calm has returned to the air in the Milan team after days when the picture looked more complicated than the technical staff had hoped, especially with growing concern about the fitness of some key elements ahead of the next clash against Genoa.

Earlier yesterday, it was reported that Modric participated in the entire training session at Milanello, wearing a protective mask to protect his face after the injury. Shortly after, coach Massimiliano Allegri confirmed at his press conference that his comeback was complete.

Website Football Italia and several Italian reports confirmed that Modric’s sudden return to training was due to the reduction of facial swelling that had been bothering him for the past few days, putting him close to making a comeback against Genoa in the Italian league.

There have been doubts over the veteran player’s position since his recent injury, particularly with fears of worsening swelling or the need for longer rest, before the picture quickly changed with a response to treatment and a lessening of the effects of the broken cheekbone he suffered against Juventus at the end of last April.

Modric’s return comes at a crucial time for Milan, who are looking to qualify for next season’s Champions League as they currently sit fourth in the table with fifth-placed Roma on 67 points each.
