The Saudi Arabian giants have entered the race to sign Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate of France, competing with Real Madrid and a host of other big European clubs to sign the player in the upcoming transfer window.
According to reporter Santi Ona of Foot Mercato, Saudi club Al Ittihad are closely monitoring Konate’s situation after the French defender decided not to renew his contract with Liverpool, leaving him available to leave as his spell with the English club nears its end.
Konate is currently considered one of the hottest names on the market, given the high interest he is receiving from prominent European clubs, led by Real Madrid, who… He recently returned to follow the player After interest in him had waned in the previous period.
Spanish newspaper AS previously reported that Real Madrid had reopened the contract for the French defender, taking advantage of the collapse of contract extension talks with Liverpool and the two sides’ differences of opinion on some financial and sporting issues.
According to the report, the federation’s leadership see Konate as a unique opportunity to strengthen the backline, especially as he has extensive experience at Europe’s highest level, having made 183 appearances for Liverpool since joining them from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2021.
Despite Saudi Arabia’s interest, Al-Ittihad’s mission will not be easy given the strong competition from Real Madrid and other clubs such as Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain, in addition to the player’s desire to explore all available options before making his final decision.
Real Madrid are looking to strengthen their defense in the coming period, while the strong relationship between Konate and compatriot Kylian Mbappe could be an additional factor that could interest the Royals should they decide to make a formal move to complete the deal.
Konate is 27 years old and is considered one of the mainstays of the France national team, making him a tempting target for many clubs looking to sign a defender who has both experience and quality, while his future is open to all possibilities as his move away from Liverpool looms.
