The Rhinogydd wildfire was seen from space when a helicopter went in to tackle the fire


Residents said. Smoke caused a “fog”. And an “acid smell” that stretches for miles between Torfaen and Pontypool.

SWFRS warned residents to keep windows and doors closed, and advised passengers to switch air conditioners in their vehicles to circulating mode.

The fire service has cut off the entire perimeter line around the accident.

“This will provide a line of defense, supported by partners and contractors with two additional water bodies, in an effort to prevent this event from happening,” he said.

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service are continuing to monitor the situation in Cappelloo, near Cychint Pass, following a large grass fire on Conwy Mountain.

Elsewhere, firefighters tackled blazes at Hope Mountain and Brimbo, in Wrexham County, Pentrefelin, Holyhead and Pentre Halkyn in Flintshire overlooking the A55.

The fire service said it was continuing to monitor the situation as a precaution with crews from the Mid and West Wales Fire Service assisting.
