The rescued Tots sewer eggs will hatch into five ducklings

Blakesley, a South West Watershed technician, said the couple couldn’t believe it when they saw the nest. They explained that they have just taken out their equipment to start the repair work.

The nest was resting on a floating object and was in danger of overturning and being destroyed, he added: “We knew we had to act quickly to save the eggs.”

All seven eggs were recovered safely and Blakesley took them home to hatch.

He said the five survivors were now thriving and swimming in a paddling pool.

“My daughter loves them and wants to give them a home in her playhouse, so we repurposed them so they can be moved around outside in the warmer weather,” he said.

“When the ducks are old, we move them into a large indoor enclosure before placing them in an old chicken coop next to our stream and pond.

“We hope they will take full advantage of the streams and ponds around our garden. As they continue to grow, they are at home near the water.”
