The public is told how to prepare for cyber attacks and extreme weather.

Jones said: “Throughout our history, the UK has overcome our share of challenges and wet weather, from plagues and epidemics to war.

It is right that we constantly assess the risks we face and plan for what may come.

“This year we saw temperatures break in the UK in May, rising again in June, and AI is providing new ways for criminals to carry out cyber attacks against us, as well as huge opportunities for our economy and security.

“The government is doing everything it can and we are well prepared – but we can all do our part to protect ourselves and our loved ones.”

He said the nationwide recovery public awareness campaign is to tell the ways in which “emergencies and disruptions – whether that could be severe weather or a cyber attack – can affect access to power, water, phone signal or food in the area.”

As part of the emergency preparations, ministers will conduct a multi-day exercise called Operation Albiston Shadow, which will test the country’s ability to respond to hybrid attacks.

The country’s classified crisis plans – the ‘war books’ – are also being updated for the first time since 2004.
