Nick Stevens, founder of Connetts Farm, confirmed that the small plane had crashed on his farm.
Stevens said he was working nearby when he saw “heavy fire” on his farm, which he assumed was one of the barns, but when he arrived, he discovered it was a light plane.
Emergency services were alerted upon arrival.
They also said there are road closures in the area.
Dunkswell Aerodrome is a former RAF base in the Blackdown Hills area of Devon, close to the county’s border with Somerset.
According to the aerodrome’s website, the site was originally built as a US Navy base during World War II.
It is also said to be the highest licensed airport in the UK.
A witness named Johnny on Marcus Road, south of the airport, said he saw “a lot of black smoke” east of the airport around 11 p.m.
