The Pentagon’s Space Development Agency has not moved as quickly as everyone would like



The Space Development Agency was established in 2019 to help accelerate the deployment of US military equipment by bypassing the sluggish Pentagon.

Seven years later, SDA is launching its first batch of satellites, as the Pentagon plans to close the independent agency and fold it back into the procurement pipeline of the Space Force, reorganized under several program procurement managers to control the purchase of weapons.

The future of the SDA is not surprising, and lawmakers in both houses of Congress have supported the closure of the agency in this year’s National Defense Authorization Act.
