The Oscar-nominated writer and director of Persepolis has died at the age of 56

First published in 2000, Persepolis follows the story of a young girl who comes of age during the Iranian Revolution, also known as the Islamic Revolution. Eight years later it was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, co-directed by Satrapi.
