Sam Barnes took a two-shot lead into the final round of the 154th Open, as Ryan Fox matched major history and Bryson DeChambeau remained in title contention.
Burns – playing with DeChambeau – raised his hopes of a first major title after mixing six birdies with a lone bogey in a third-round 65 at Royal Birkdale, moving him to 10 under over Fox and Si Woo Kim.
Fox capitalized on the mild conditions earlier in the day to post an eight-under 62Barnes tied for the lowest major round in men’s history earlier in the day, joining overnight leader Lucas Herbert.

Herbert finished tied for fourth with Ryan Gerrard to post a one-over 71, while DeChambeau is the only past major champion in the top 10 heading into an interesting Sunday.
DeChambeau was reacting to being handed a two-shot penalty for a rules violation earlier in the day to briefly get within two of the lead, only to bogey a final-hole 69 in one-under and fall four strokes behind.
Home favorite Tommy Fleetwood bogeyed two of his last four holes to drop five strokes back, with defending champion Scotty Scheffler six adrift after a level-par 70 and Rory McIlroy sitting eight back.
