The Onion ‘Infowars’ Parody Is Here. Alex Jones Will Hate It

“Legally, we have to say that this is a pretext for Alex Jones and all this beef, until we’re allowed to confiscate all of his stuff,” Collins tells WIRED. “But until then, we’re having a lot of fun.” Attorneys for Jones did not return requests for comment from him; messages to Infowars Emails were returned as undeliverable.

He explains: “It helps us to see the absurdity of everything and the way people talk these days. “People are always trying to find the big secret that runs the world, but the truth is, the big secret that runs the world is collapsing before our eyes, and it’s a big treasonous government that we live under the thumb of.”

Besides Heidecker, the livestreams will also include other familiar faces and voices. Tim Robinson of I Think You Should Leave and The Chair Company sings as “Tim from Ohio” in the first episode, which led to controversy over whether Bozo the Clown was actually multiple characters. Fictional news anchor Jim Haggerty (Brad Holbrook) is also back, having quit his regular job at the Onion News Network to show off a spoof while advertising a commercial like “Hog Water.”

And a interesting opening chapter is presented by comedian Nick Lutsko, who often accompanies the music mocking Jones and other right-wing people. “This is like, ‘Avengers, assemble’ for everyone who’s been laughing at this donkey for years,” says Collins. “I think that if (these players) had been hypocritical all this time in Trumpism that maybe we wouldn’t have Trumpism.” Lawson adds, “I worry about democracy, and I think satire is the answer to that, being able to point at things that we look at and say, ‘This is not right.'”
