Samsung has unveiled a revolutionary new technology for foldable phones designed to be thinner, more stable, and more flexible. As its name suggests, the Flex Titanium display uses two titanium-based materials to increase strength, flexibility, and weight. The film made of titanium provides support from the bottom of the OLED panel, providing “20 times the mechanical stiffness” compared to polymer film, and measures about one-third the thickness of a human hair.

The titanium plate on the bottom of the film ensures a solid connection with the display panel, improving stability when exposed and maintaining “the flexibility necessary for repeated bending,” according to Samsung. The new technology will also consume less energy and create a more “smart” display.

“Together, these advancements enable a powerful curved display that maximizes the immersion of content on the screen without cluttering it and minimizes the screen – all while reducing it,” Samsung said in its announcement. “By combining power, flexibility and design stability, Samsung continues to set the standard for displays.”
