The new Razr Ultra is still a great looking phone

See, you won’t find anything new on the 2026 version of the Motorola Razr Ultra. There’s a new camera sensor, a slightly larger battery, and a higher price tag: $1,499, up from $1,299. But one thing hasn’t changed: this is a great looking phone.

The rear panel of wood returns, and is combined with a new suede-like Alcantara option in oriental blue. For anyone who has complained to me over the past year that “phones are boring now,” which is a lot—a Edge readers, please check these phones. They are definitely not boring. They look good, they look good, and they shoot very well.

That is the good news. The bad news is, 2026. $1,499 gets you the same 512GB storage and 16GB RAM that was $200 cheaper last year. It comes with the same Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset as last year. There’s a 5,000mAh silicon-carbon battery compared to last year’s 4,700mAh, and a larger 50-megapixel sensor compared to the one on the 2025 Ultra. The updated camera also claims higher performance thanks to a new sensor technology called LOFIC. These are good upgrades, but the price increase is probably related to the memory loss.

There are some minor changes, too. The inner screen can be lit up to 5,000 nits compared to 4,500 on last year’s models. The outer screen is protected by Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3, which is said to work better than before.

Along with the other two Razr devices, the Ultra offers several camera tricks. When shooting a video in the camcorder configuration and the device is bent 90 degrees, you can tilt the device left and right so that the view is outside. You won’t see this movement in the final image, as the device uses its gyro sensor and image stabilization techniques to correct it in post-processing and maintain the direction.

There is also a feature called Frame Match which is designed for when you have to hand your phone to someone else. You take the picture you want and point it in front of the camera – whoever you’re handing the phone to will see it overlayed to match the design. The idea is to prevent someone from inadvertently leaving the background you want to photograph. Personally, I’d be nervous trying to explain this idea to a stranger taking a photo of my family, but it seemed to work better when I played around with it.

Like the rest of the 2026 Razr lineup, the Ultra will be available for pre-order on May 14th and will arrive on May 21st.
