The Canadian company only shares prices in the local currency but Beans is available to order now via the Ploopy website for $69.99, or around US $51. Underneath the 3D printed fabric that allows you to print your own replacement parts is a Texas Instruments magnetic sensor that works on the Bean’s pointing stick that can detect movements as small as three microns. The stick also offers more travel than is available in the middle of a laptop keyboard, up to 11mm on either side.
The Bean’s four buttons use Omron D2LS-21 switches that you also find on most Logitech mice. Buttons are also customizable thanks to the upcoming Loaded Bean Ploopy version of QMK firmware. Application VIA web tool, you can program buttons to launch macros or combine keyboard keys with a single click. The only downside to the Bean is that it’s not wired, so you’ll need to pair it with a USB-C cable to connect it to a laptop or tablet.
