Spanish club Real Madrid on Monday officially announced the transfer of Swedish midfielder Hannah Bennison to German club Eintracht Frankfurt in a new deal that adds to the wave of departures the women’s team has seen this summer.
Real Madrid and Eintracht Frankfurt have agreed on the transfer of our player Hannah Bennison. Real Madrid wishes him and his family all the best in this new phase of life.”
Bennison, 23, joined Real Madrid last summer as one of the club’s most popular midfielders, but he has not had enough opportunities under coach Pau Quesada, leading him to publicly hint at a possible exit from the club months ago.
The Swede’s departure comes as part of an unprecedented wave of female departures that Real Madrid have seen this summer, with Messi, Teresa, Weir, Roteu, Feller and Yasmin leaving the team, while China’s Shi is close to joining Inter Milan.
The spate of dismissals raises questions about Real’s strategy in the women’s division, especially in light of fierce competition in the Spanish Women’s Premier League, as Real Madrid look to strengthen their position against arch-rivals Barcelona, who dominate the title.
The club did not disclose the details of the financial deal or the length of Bennison’s contract with Frankfurt, but what is certain is that the German side have acquired the services of a promising midfielder who was not given enough opportunity to prove his abilities in the Spanish capital.
