The original Quest is a bit of a combination of the more advanced Quest 3 and the older Quest 2 to match the Goldilocks version. Like the other Quests, it’s a stand-alone unit that works wirelessly — until it’s time to charge it, of course. It plays various games from the Quest store, such as Batman: Arkham Shadow and Spiritual (once restarted), and if you don’t mind any additional latency issues, you can play Steam games wirelessly from your PC.
Even more pricier Question 3 uses light, smooth glass on its display, the 3S uses fresnel glass like the generation Quest 2. But other than that, it has many similarities to the $600 Quest 3: the same Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 processor, the same cameras with pass-through color video, and the same controllers. What you’re paying for in the Quest 3 is excellent visuals, thanks in part to refined optics and a high-quality display in each eye. But the Quest 3S looks great with its 1832 x 1920 pixels per eye.
It’s a shame we’re not seeing the previous versions of the lower prices that the Quest 3S was dropping to, like it was $249 around Black Friday, but as things stand this is as good as it gets.
