David Cifaldi was hiking Montana’s Granite Peak with friends when he slipped and impaled himself on a hiking pole. Surprisingly, the pillar missed all the main elements. Instead of calling for a helicopter rescue, Cifaldi walked 10 miles up the mountain. As a wound nurse, he immediately switched to professional mode, assessing the injury and managing it throughout the ordeal.
