Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho continues to work on filling his staff in preparation for the start of his second term at Real Madrid, as he is still looking for the final piece to fill the vacancy in the assistant staff, according to reports. Spanish newspaper Marca.
Mourinho has long since decided on the majority of names that will accompany him in his new mission at the Royals, but he has deliberately kept one position undecided, preferring to wait before making a final decision on the most suitable person for the position.
In forming his technical staff, the Portuguese coach relied on a number of competences that he considered necessary to ensure control of the day-to-day work within the team and to speed up the process of implementing his technical ideas from the very beginning.
For this reason, before the official announcement of taking over, Mourinho wanted to be present at the Real Madrid Sports City in Valdebebas to start planning for the new season early.
During the visit lasting several days, he was accompanied by João Trallia and Pedro Machado, two of his closest and most trusted assistants. They participated in a series of meetings with club officials and members of the technical staff, and also worked on putting the first touches on the preparation plan for the next season, including the organization of friendly matches and the summer training program.
During those meetings, Mourinho emphasized sticking to his famous philosophy, which is based on attention to the smallest details and daily consistency of everything that happens within the team, explaining:
The meetings also witnessed intense discussions about the identity of the final member of the technical staff. Mourinho prefers to sign a man with a previous connection to Real Madrid or extensive experience in Spanish football, and so he continues to explore a number of options before making a final decision, especially after ruling out some names that have been of recent interest.
Former Portuguese defender Pepe has been among the names floated in recent weeks, given his strong relationship with Mourinho, as well as his extensive knowledge of the atmosphere at Real Madrid. The duo previously worked together between 2010 and 2013, fueling speculation that they could be working together again at the Royals.
However, reports are that he has not become Pepe Mourinho’s first choice, and no official contact between the two sides has been recorded yet. On the other hand, the Portuguese coach continues to carefully study the available alternatives, preferring not to hurry in making a decision in order to choose the most suitable character for his artistic project in the next phase.
