The San Antonio Spurs are now having their worst slump The NBA Finals history, but refuses to be read.
While the New York Knicks are looking to capture their first NBA title since 1973, the Spurs are looking to stay alive in their seventh straight game when they host Game 5 on Saturday night.

New York led 3-1 after that overcoming a deficit of 29 points in Game 4 with a 107-106 victory over the crestfallen Spurs.
“The games we’re losing have all been really close games,” San Antonio guard De’Aaron Fox said Friday. “We still believe we have a chance to win, but we are taking it one game at a time.
“We’re not looking at that because we need to win three games. We need to win tomorrow and then give ourselves the opportunity to play another game.”

The Knicks won 105-95 and 105-104 in San Antonio to open the series. The Spurs recorded a 115-111 victory over New York in the Game 3 before Wednesday’s dramatic meltdown.
The first major comeback in an NBA Finals game was 24 by the Boston Celtics over the Los Angeles Lakers in 2008.
San Antonio led by 20 with 9:33 left in the game. After five minutes, the lead was just four. The Knicks completed the comeback with a layup by star OG Anunoby with 1.2 seconds left.
Knicks coach Mike Brown has put aside all the fun times as his club tries to end a 53-year drought. He views trying to close out the Finals in Game 5 in San Antonio as a difficult task.
“It’s going to be tough,” Brown said. “San Antonio is a very good team. They’re desperate. I still think they believe. It’s going to be tough for us.”
Knicks star guard Jalen Brunson hasn’t forgotten that his team was down 29 in Game 4. Otherwise, he’s looking ahead.

“I always tell myself when you wake up the next day, it’s time to turn the page,” Brunson said. “Yes, we won, but we still have a lot of work to do. We have a lot to learn. We didn’t play our best basketball. We have a lot to come back to make sure we don’t put ourselves in that position again.”
Brunson scored 36 points and seven assists in Game 4 and has scored 30 or more points three times in the series.
Anunoby set a postseason best of seven 3-pointers and 33 points to go along with the already established streak in the Knicks’ mind.
“Everybody has been telling me how much, and obviously I can see what that means,” Anunoby said. “It’s really nice to have them, and I’m very grateful.”
Victor Wembanyama had 24 points, 13 rebounds and three blocked shots but shot just 9 of 25 in Game 4. He has scored at least 24 points in every game but is shooting just 43.5 percent from the series.
Only one team has won a 3-1 series to win the NBA title. This was LeBron James’ 2016 Cleveland Cavaliers rebounding and beating a Golden State Warriors team that had won 73 games in the regular season.
Wembanyama insists San Antonio can do the same. After all, the Spurs had a chance to win all four of the first four games.
“It’s a lot harder than any other game before, for sure,” Wembanyama said of the loss in Game 4. “I mean, now we’re over it. It’s an exercise. There’s no time to regret it for a long time.”

Spurs coach Mitch Johnson knew a big chance had been missed as his club scored just 30 points in the second half after pouring on 76 in the first quarter. But he refuses to be buried in the thought-if.
“There’s no avoiding what happened,” Johnson said. “There’s no denying (that) all four games have been winning games. There’s no denying that we’re down 3-1. There’s no denying that we can be better.
“There’s no one who can hurt us, and I answer to ourselves, than the people in the locker room with each other. That’s what helped us get to where we are, and that’s how the team is made.”
