Iraq will face Senegal, France and Norway in the first round
Today, Wednesday, Iraq denied the authenticity of reports that the US authorities refused to grant visas to some players of the national team participating in the 2026 World Cup, stressing that all members of the delegation received official permission to enter the US.
Local and international reports indicated that Iraq’s national team was in crisis ahead of its expected participation in the World Cup after a 40-year absence, amid allegations that a number of players, including Ibrahim Bayesh, Muhannad Ali, Zeid Tahsin, Haider Abdul Karim and Ali Al Hammadi, were refused entry visas without explanation.

However, the Iraqi News Agency quoted the local football association as confirming that “rumors circulating about the US embassy refusing visas to some of the team’s players are baseless”.
The union noted that “all 55 members of the delegation received official permission to enter the US without recording cases of refusal.”
The agency added that the team will leave for Spain on May 22 after the final list to participate in a training camp led by Australian coach Graham Arnold is announced.
He also noted that Arnold will hold a press conference on May 19 or 20 in Baghdad, the capital of the Iraqi Football Federation, where he will talk about the team’s preparation and plan before the start of the tournament.
