Sunrisers Leeds Women ushered in a new era for The Hundred with a seven-wicket win over MI London as the two teams changed names following massive foreign investment at The Kia Oval.
Sunrisers, who won the title last year under their Northern Superchargers name, restricted MI London, formerly known as Oval Invincibles, to 107-8 after they put together a 57-run opening stand between Hayley Matthews (33) and Danny Watt-Hodge (29).
Australian opener Phoebe Lichfield (43 off 26) returned from a run out and the visitors eased into their target with 31 balls to spare.
Another Aussie, Annabelle Sutherland, made 30 not out off 23 balls, while captain Dani Gibson (12 off 7 balls) hit the winning boundary.

A sour note for Sunrisers was Kate Cross’s shoulder injury, shortly after which she took a brilliant running catch at long-on to dismiss Watt-Hodge.
Cross went down fielding awkwardly at extra cover and went off in pain – he hadn’t dislocated his shoulder but would have a scan.

Earlier, Cross took a brilliant catch to dismiss former England teammate Danny Watt Hodge
Gibson (2-17) – the most expensive English player in the Hundred auction earlier this year, as Sunrisers shelled out £190k for him – took two wickets, including Australia’s Nicola Carey (5), bowled by a cross-seamer.
Watt-Hodge, West Indies captain Matthews and New Zealand captain Mellie Kerr (13) all fell to spin.
Deepti Sharma (2-20) accounted for Wyatt-Hdge and Matthews – the latter was dismissed by a sharp catch-and-ball from the Indian all-rounder – while young English leg-spinner Hannah Baker removed Kerr for 2-16.

“He seems to me to be the best player in the world – he covers everything.
“He can hit the ball anywhere, has a lot of time, opens up the off-side and runs the ball beautifully.
“Also, he uses his feet when the wicketkeeper is there. He can be a bit too mobile at times but he has incredible talent.
“The sound off the bat is different – it is when top level players hit the ball – and he can score 360.”
