The Hundred: Southern Braves edge MI London by one run to continue unbeaten start in thrilling finish | cricket news

Southern Braves beat MI London by one run in a last-ball thriller at the Utility Bowl in Southampton.

Jemimah Rodriguez (32 off 22), opener Maia Bouchier (31 off 22), and top scorer Laura Olvard (35) led the Braves to 126-7 after their 100 balls, with West Indies star Hayley Mathews (4-22) leading the way outside the middle order.

Matthews then echoed his brilliance with the ball with an effective batting performance, scoring 32 off 28 balls before being dismissed by Izzy Wang (1-20), but it was a stand of fifties by Danny Watt-Hodge (52 off 42 balls) and captain Holly Armitage (27) that looked set to finish five over the last five for London.

Alice Davidson-Richards leaps to take a brilliant catch off Liesel Lee in the hundred.

However, Lauren Bell produced a brilliant final over to leave his England teammate Danny Watt-Hodge needing four off the last ball. Bale’s final statement was to prevent Watt-Hodge from finding the boundary and condemn MI to defeat London.

The Braves secured their third straight win, extending their lead at the top of the Hundred standings to six points ahead of Manchester Supergiants. Meanwhile, MI London’s struggles continued as they remained winless and dropped to the bottom of the table in the women’s competition.

Man of the match Rodriguez said, “This team has great belief Sky Sports.

“What sets us apart is composure. We keep the faith.

“It was a tough wicket. If you hit a good length, it becomes difficult to hit boundaries. I know I’m standing here (with the Player of the Match trophy), but one of our bowlers should have got it, they bowled really well.”
