Raina MacDonald-Gay took four wickets as Manchester Super Giants cruised to a seven-wicket victory over London Spirit at Lord’s.
Meg Lanning’s side showed why they are one of the teams to watch in The Hundred this year, bowling out the hosts for 80 with nine deliveries to spare, needing just 40 minutes to surpass that total.
“It was a mega start from our girls,” England spinner Sophie Ecclestone said. “I think we set up really well. The pitch was doing a bit and we didn’t really miss. It was spinning and then it was variable bounce.

“We haven’t spent a lot of time together and I think a lot of teams have said that, but to see Grace Bollinger up front and obviously Rayna MacDonald-Gay did was amazing.”
Spirit were allowed to bat, but struggled early against a dominant bowling attack from the Super Giants, with Grace Harris (4) and Amy Jones (0) getting out in the first eight deliveries of Grace Ballinger and Maitlan Brown.

Three deliveries later, MacDonald-Gay and Lanning combined to take the crucial wicket of South African all-rounder Marijan Kapp, who scored 17 off 12 balls.

With Spirit finding themselves struggling at 23-4, Ecclestone bowled a full length delivery to remove West Indies batsman Diandra Dottin for four.
England vice-captain Charlie Dean Lanning and Richa Ghosh were run out for 14, before McDonald-Gay again hit the stumps of Nadine de Klerk, forcing Katie George to edge a ball behind Ghosh.
“The bowlers at the top settled the game for us, took the early wickets and I felt like I came in and stuck to my plan worked really well,” Macdonald-Gay said.
“We stuck to our plan and we nailed the basics and we did it really well. I felt in a pretty good rhythm. Pretty confident.
“Coming into this game, we were really clean and just wanted to execute our fundamentals and I think we did that.”
The super giants continued to put their foot on the gas pedal in their reply, with Smriti Mandhana (17) and Lanning (21) putting on a 33-run partnership off 28 deliveries, with Cap trapping India’s batsman lbw.
Cap got another wicket next ball, hitting the stumps of Grace Scrivens to dismiss the 22-year-old for a golden duck, before he eventually removed Lanning later in the innings.
Scholfield (No. 22) and Ghosh (No. 15) then stood firm, though, to secure a seven-wicket victory and send the Super Giants to the top of the Hundred table on net run rate.
