Will Jacques scored his maiden half-century in this year’s edition of The Hundred to help MI London claim a nerve-wracking last-ball victory over Southern Braves.
Jacks hit three fours and two sixes in his 41-ball 54 as MI chased down 130 on a tough Southampton pitch.
At 93-3 and England all-rounder Jacks in good touch, MI were looking at a comfortable win losing just four wickets for 34 runs.
The momentum turned bold when Jacks was trapped lbw by a toe-crushing yorker from Marcus Stoinis, who had earlier removed MI captain James Vince and Nicholas Pooran for ducks in consecutive deliveries.
Sherfan Rutherford’s 21 off 12 balls only set the visitors back for a nail-biting final as he and Rashid Khan were run out and Tom Curran was bowled by Nikhil Chaudhary.
With two runs needed from the last delivery of the match – bowled by Chowdhury – Oli Pope managed to slash through point and went back for a second.
Braves had earlier made 129-9 for 49 off 26 balls from top-of-the-order England wicketkeeper Jamie Smith.
Smith hit six fours and two sixes before he delivered a slower delivery from veteran pacer Richard Gleeson to long on.
Tristan Stubbs added 38 off 31 balls and Chaudhary 13, but they were the only Braves players to make double figures.
The wickets were shared around MI’s attack with Kiwi left-arm pacer Trent Boult taking 2-15 as Tom Curran, Sam Curran and Gleeson also claimed two each.
MI are third with eight points – having played a game more than leaders Manchester Super Giants and second-placed Welsh Fire – while the Braves are second bottom having lost their first three games.
