England recorded an average temperature of 17.1C (62.78 degrees Fahrenheit) last month – very high since records began in 1884.
“The exceptional heat was driven by high and unseasonable temperatures at the end of the month,” the Met Office said in a statement.
The previous record of 16.9C (62.4F) was set in June 2025, about 3C (5.4F) above the long-term average. This means that the three warmest Junes in England since records began in 1884 have all happened in this decade, and the third was in 2023.
A punishing storm hit many parts of the country in the last week of the month, with temperatures exceeding 30C (86F) in some parts of the UK for seven days in a row from June 21-27.
A high of 37.7C (99.86F) was briefly reached at Lingwood in Norfolk on June 26 – the highest temperature ever recorded this month.
This was more than 2C higher (3.6F) than the June record of 35.6C (96.08F), which was set in 1957 in Camden Square in London and equaled in 1976 in Mayflower Park in Southampton.
Last month also saw a new June record for the coldest night, with temperatures in Cardiff’s Bute Park not dropping below 23.5C (74.3F) on June 25.
More than 1,000 schools and daycare centers were closed during the heatwave, and there were disruptions to public transport with overhead wires and signs damaged by the heat.

The climate has also affected many countries in Europe, including France, Germany, Slovakia, Serbia, Croatia, Italy, Austria and Western Ukraine, and more than 1,000 die Related to the hot weather reported only in France.
The group of scientists blamed climate change because of the terrible weather that is blowing all over Europe. In the World Weather Attribution report, experts warned that the end of fossil fuels is crucial to solving the problem of severe weather.
