The Google Images homepage will generate images before you search

Google is announcing a big change to the Google Photos homepage in honor of the platform’s 25th anniversary this week. Instead of a blank page with a search bar, the home page will show you a bunch of images it thinks you might like before you start searching.

The the company says the new “unbrowsable” homepage features “impressive, immersive web graphics – updated in real-time and intelligently tailored to your preferences.” Based on the images shared by Google, the interface reminds me of platforms like Pinterest and Imgur that put tons of images in one place for you to scroll through. You’ll also be able to save photos into collections that you can name later, and those collections will appear as tabs at the top of the feed.

The new Google Photos site will be rolling out in the “coming weeks” to US desktop users in English, according to Google.

In another image-related update, Google Search will soon be able to generate images in AI Overviews using its Nano Banana 2 Lite AI version. Google examples show how this feature can be used to compare or view home decor ideas.
