Germany were dealt a heavy blow after their 2-1 crushing victory over Ivory Coast in the second round of the 2026 World Cup Group E tournament on Saturday.
Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann has given an update on the injury to one of his star players against the Elephants after he was forced off the pitch in the first half.
Speaking to ZDF after the match, the coach of the German team, Julian Nagelsmann, was not very optimistic about the injury.
Nagelsman said: “Nico Schlotterbeck has a medial ligament (knee) problem and needs an MRI tomorrow…Unfortunately, things don’t look good.”
Schlotterback felt the problem early in the match but stayed on until the end of the first half despite the continued pain he was experiencing.
Nagelsmann added, explaining why the defender was not replaced sooner. “At the end of the day, the decision to continue playing is mostly a tactical decision. He played very well until the end of the first half.”
Schlotterbeck started Germany’s first two matches (Curaçao, then Ivory Coast) alongside Jonathan Tah at the heart of the defence.
Antonio Rudiger replaced Schloterbeck in the second half against Ivory Coast tonight.
The German “Bild” newspaper reported a few days ago that the name… Nico Schlotterbeck is back on Real Madrid’s radarThe Spanish club are monitoring his progress and could sign him if he excels at the World Cup.
