The Greek coach is under new attack
Giorgis Donis, the coach of the Saudi Arabian national team, has been attacked by one of the former stars of “Al-Ahly” over the selection of the squad for the 2026 World Cup.
The Greens’ roster saw some strong surprises, most notably the exclusion of Al-Ahli winger Saleh Abu Al-Shamat and his counterpart Zakaria Hawsawi, which sparked widespread controversy.

Taysir Al-Jassem, a former player of the Saudi Arabian and Al-Ahli national team, said in television statements.
He added: “The Greek coach ruled out Abu Al-Shamat, one of the most famous players who helped the team qualify for the World Cup, while Zakaria Hawsaoui was also a standout player.”
“From my point of view, the departure of Abu Al-Shamat was the biggest surprise, as the player plays well in all attacking positions and stands out for his tremendous ability to pass, shoot and create chances.”
“This unfair decision can destroy the player’s psyche, but he is still young and I hope to see him at the next World Cup.”
