The first leader and different characteristics. Barcelona clarifies its position on the sale of Araujo

The Uruguayan defender has a contract with the Catalan club until 2031

Barcelona have revealed their stance on selling Uruguay captain Ronaldo Araujo in the summer transfer window, given his lack of involvement with the Blaugrana last season.

Ronald Araujo is under contract with Barcelona until 2031 under an agreement signed in January 2025 that will keep him at the club for another 5 seasons.

Lately, some press reports stated that the Catalan club will not rule out Araujo’s departure this summer if an attractive offer comes.

However, according to Catalan newspaper Sport, the centre-back is not on the transfer list and the plans of the sports administration will not change other than his apparent desire to leave, as they have other plans for the players who are likely to leave this summer.

Araujo, who is fully focused on preparing for the World Cup with Uruguay, recently made it clear that he has no intention of changing clubs, that he is very happy at Barcelona and that his aim is to finish the remaining years of his contract.

Moreover, Araujo fully corresponds to the direction of the club, there is complete harmony between them, and this has been made clear to him.

The Catalan newspaper added that German coach Hansi Flick is counting on him and despite his limited participation last season, he considers him an important element of the Catalan team.

Granted, Araujo was 16th in total minutes played after knowing he would have to sit out due to anxiety issues, but he came back even stronger after recovering.

The Uruguayan is very excited about next season and is determined to make Flick’s job extremely difficult, while the German coach in turn appreciates having a different type of centre-back than Pau Kobarzi or Erik Garcia.

Araujo is also well-loved by his teammates and this is evident in his being the first captain of the Catalan team, and this is a very important detail that shows his influence in the team.

Both sporting director Deco and the coaching staff are aware that the balance of the dressing room also depends on personalities like the Uruguayan, both on and off the pitch.

Thus, Araujo’s future in Barcelona is guaranteed from a sporting point of view, and from a financial point of view there are no problems with the salary cap, because the interests of both parties are completely comparable, and the possibility of leaving is in the past.

The Catalan newspaper concluded its report. “In fact, they have informed Araujo of this, assuring him that they are completely satisfied with him and that they intend to continue the relationship for many years.”
