Prime Video has released the final trailer for its upcoming sequel, Spider-Black, starring Nicolas Cage, and was also released in two versions: one in black and white (below) and one in color (above), which showrunners call “True Hue.” Interestingly, the more we see about this series, the more curious we are to know if the series lives up to its sales. And the last trailer – which plays dead humor and is based on Amy Winehouse”Return to Black”—is very encouraging.
Like it has already been saidMarvel Comics created its “noir” line in 2009, reinterpreting famous Marvel characters in another universe, often set during the Great Depression in the US. The Spider-Noir version, voiced by Cage, appeared briefly in the cartoons. Spider-Man: Entering the Spider-Verse (2018) and Across the Spider-Verse (2023). (They should repeat the next section Above the Spider-Verse.)
Cage plays Ben Reilly, a hard-boiled PI with a secret history, The Spider. According to the government: “Spider-Black tells the story of Ben Reilly, a well-versed, down-on-his-luck private investigator in 1930s New York, who is forced to confront his past life, following a major disaster, as the city’s only hero.
In addition to Ben Reilly / The Spider of the Cage, the cast includes Lamorne Morris as Reilly’s friend Robbie Robertson, a freelance journalist who clings to hope in the face of his friend’s cynicism; Li Jun Li as nightclub singer Cat Hardy, a notorious underworld femme fatale (Li based her image on Anna May Wong, Rita Hayworth, and Lauren Bacall); Karen Rodriguez as Reilly’s secretary, Janet; Abraham Popoola as a World War I soldier; Jack Huston as a security guard named Flint Marko who becomes (as seen in the new trailer) the super villain Sandman; Brendan Gleeson as New York mob boss Silvermane, who is expected to be killed; Lukas Haas as one of Silvermane’s underlings; Richard Robichaux as editor of the Daily Bugle; and Kai Caster.
