Delayed appointment…and a photo with one of the candidates
Saudi Arabian “Al Ahli” defender Merih Demiral has been in the spotlight of Turkish “Fenerbahce” after the club’s presidential candidate Hakan Safi announced that he had reached a preliminary agreement with the player to include him in the upcoming summer transfers.
Safi published a picture of himself with the Turkish defender on his official page of the “X” website, confirming the existence of an agreement between the two sides, a step aimed at strengthening the team’s defense in case of winning the elections.
Saudi newspaper Al-Midan Sports reports that Fenerbahce will make a formal offer to Al Ahly as soon as Safi is elected as president, while the Saudi club expects to receive a financial compensation of between 18 and 20 million euros to let the player go.
Demiral has signed a new contract with Al-Ahly as he was seen as one of the mainstays of coach Matthias Zesl’s side last season as the international defender performed at remarkable levels to help the team to the AFC Elite Champions League title and Super Cup crown.

The move comes in light of Fenerbahce’s desire to bring the defender back to the Turkish league after a long professional stint in Europe and Saudi Arabia, while Al-Ahli are waiting for the Turkish club’s election to develop before starting formal talks, especially as the player is seen as an easily replaceable element in Yaşla’s defense.
