The death is heartbreaking for Atletico Madrid’s Cura

Grief gripped the Atletico Madrid family on Thursday evening at the death of club legend Joao Leyva Campos, known as ‘Levinia’ at the age of 76.

Brazilian Livinha is regarded as one of Atletico Madrid’s greatest legends, having created an era since his arrival from Palmeiras in 1975, AS newspaper reports.

Levinia did not arrive alone at Atletico Madrid, but another Palmeiras player, Luis Pereira, came with him.

These two players were the first major signings in the history of Atletico Madrid after they attracted a lot of attention, especially when they scored 3 goals together against Real Madrid in a Caranta Cup friendly just 4 days ago.

Livinha played his first match for Atlético Madrid on September 28, 1975 against Salamanca at the Vicente Calderon Stadium, scoring 3 goals.

He made 93 appearances with the team over 4 seasons, scoring 43 goals and winning one title, which was the Spanish Championship in 1977.
