Marcus Rashford’s future has entered a more difficult phase than expected after his hopes of a final move were dashed after a successful loan spell last season. Between Manchester United’s desire to shed his huge wages and the player’s insistence on a move to a major club in the Champions League, all parties appear to be locked in an equation that is difficult to resolve, with the issue expected to drag on into the final days of the summer transfer window.
Rashford and Manchester United were hoping Barcelona would activate an option to buy the player, who cost £26 million ($35 million), after the good form he showed on loan last season.
But the Catalan club decided to change direction in the transfer market and opted to sign another target, closing the door on the England international, who continued at the Camp Nou, sending shockwaves through the corridors of Manchester United and returning the player’s future.
While the appointment of Michael Carrick as permanent technical director may offer the chance to reintegrate Rashford into the squad, the reality seems more complicated as the player’s future is still open to all options, whether to stay, re-loan or leave for good.
